Is vaping cheaper than smoking?

Many smokers who are looking for an effective way to quit smoking are often concerned about the associated costs of nicotine replacement therapies like “the patch” and nicotine gums. They might also be concerned with how easily these products can be purchased, too.

After all, smokers can buy a pack of cigarettes on nearly every street corner these days. An effective smoking cessation tool must be easy to buy, truly effective, and cheaper than smoking if it is going to keep newbies motivated to quit smoking in the long term.

A study published by Public Health England has already identified that vaping is up to 95 percent less harmful than smoking. And more research published by scientists of Columbia University suggests that daily vapers are more likely to quit smoking compared to users of the other Big Pharma products by a ratio of 2:1. Now, even Money Magazine is claiming that vaping is up to 75 percent cheaper than smoking, thanks to a study conducted by NerdWallet.

How is vaping is cheaper than smoking?

Now, the report was first published back in 2014, but the statistics are still true today. The associated costs might be slightly higher individually, but the basic comparison numbers are still accurate.

  • Back in 2014, the average cost of a pack of cigarettes was $7.04. That means that a pack-a-day smoker was spending about $2600 per year.
  • On the other hand, disposable e-cigs like Blu or SKYCigs were costing about $9 per cigarette, but they last about the length of 2.5 packs of smokes. This translates to an average cost of about $1400.00 per year.
  • Meanwhile, people who switch to vaping devices and e-liquids (that come in literally thousands of different flavors) spend only about $605.00 per year. A good vaping device might cost anywhere from $25 to $150, and the e-juice only costs about $43 per month or $516 per year (for a pack-a-day smoker to vaping equivalent).

So, there you have it! Vaping is not only less harmful by 95%, it’s also less expensive by almost 75%! If the science doesn’t convince you to quit smoking and start vaping, then maybe your bank account will. Vaping is cheaper than smoking, and you’ll feel a great deal happier, healthier, and more energetic in the process!
