Whoopi Goldberg is perhaps best known as the outspoken co-host of The View and for her numerous blockbuster movie roles, but most people might be surprised to learn that the Oscar-winning actress also has a vape pen named Sippy. 61-year old Goldberg suffers from glaucoma, a medical disorder of the eye that can lead to optic nerve damage and crushing, unrelenting headaches without a moment’s notice.
Whoopi firmly believes that vaping medical marijuana allows her to lead a more normal, active lifestyle. She is a staunch activist for the legalization of medical marijuana, often showing up at rallies and authoring columns for advocacy websites like The Cannabist. However, in real life, Whoopi tends to keep her vaping practices somewhat private.
“My vape pen and I maintain a mostly private relationship. Sure, I’ll sometimes show my pen to a friend or share her with a close confidant. But mostly it’s just she and I working through my pain. And her ability to help me live comfortably with glaucoma makes her one of the more important figures in my day to day.”
Before vape mods and pens became so popular in recent years, Whoopi Goldberg struggled to ingest her medical marijuana the old-fashioned way – by smoking it. But pulling out a joint or a bong during a business meeting with a hot-shot movie executive is not always convenient or professional. Eventually, her daughter turned her on to tabletop vaporizers.
Whoopi Goldberg goes from smoking joints to vaping weed.
While the tabletop vaporizers proved to be a bit easier, she also felt the contraptions were a bit too complicated for everyday use. Then she discovered the vape pen.
“The vape pen has changed my life. No, I’m not exaggerating. In fact, her name is Sippy. Yes, she’s a she. And yes, I named her Sippy because I take tiny, little sips — sassy sips, even — from her. And with each sip comes relief — from pressure, pain, stress, discomfort. But I’m getting ahead of myself.”
No word on which of the hundreds of vape pens is Goldberg’s personal favorite. However, she openly admits to upgrading and changing her technology with the times. She likes vape pens that are “light, compact, and portable,” and she also admits that she maintains proper vaping etiquette when in public.
“I take Sippy everywhere I go. And I’m respectful when I’m in a city that may not understand what I have, so I don’t flaunt her.”
Whoopi Goldberg is an EGOT recipient, meaning that she is one an elite few actors who has received an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony over the course of her career. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, she even announced that she will very soon be launching her own line of cannabis products. Whoopi Goldberg may be Hollywood Royalty, but to the vaping and medical marijuana communities, she is just plain old Whoopi – one of our own.
