So, why do we so often relapse back into smoking? Studies show that it’s the chemicals in tobacco cigarettes that keep us addicted.
Unfortunately, these same toxins often increase our chances of developing chronic depression, as well. In fact, a recent study published in the American Psychological Association suggests that smoking and depression go hand-in-hand.
The more we smoke, the deeper into depression we fall, and the more that we want to smoke to overcome those negative feelings. It’s an unending cycle of self-sabotage. But vaping is 100% tobacco-free.
Vaping your way out of chronic depression
A second study published in PsychCentral evaluated the mental and emotional states of some 1,000 participants compared to their regularity of smoking long-term. The scientists discovered that smokers tend to exhibit symptoms of depression that are twice the level of intensity as non-smokers. A third study published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information also supports these findings.
“This evidence is consistent with the conclusion that there is a cause and effect relationship between smoking and depression in which cigarette smoking increases the risk of symptoms of depression.”
Although the direct connection between smoking and depression is still relatively unclear, one thing is certain. Vaping does not contain tobacco and the thousands of toxins found in cigarettes which attribute to chronic depression.
Think about it. Why did you take up smoking in the first place? If you are like many of us, we began smoking because we thought it was “cool.” Then, shortly thereafter, we noticed that smoking gives us a calming feeling. We reach for a cigarette in times of anxiety as a way to ”calm the nerves.” The trouble is that - eventually – our nerves grow so “calm” that we become consistently fatigued and ultimate chronically depressed.
It makes sense, doesn’t it? Smoking leads to depression.
