Attention all vapers: Fight for your right to vape!

Posted by

While many in the vaping industry have been calling for vapers to contact their state political officials to fight for the right to vape, it’s perhaps never been more urgent than it is today. The recent passing of six pieces of anti-vaping legislation by the California State Assembly last week is a Big Red Flag. As the bills are almost certain to pass the state Senate, that means that only the swift signature of Gov. Jerry Brown will turn these bills into law. And if history is any proof, whatever California does, the rest of the country is sure to follow.

The fight for the right to vape goes worldwide!

It’s not just us silly Americans who are watching what is going on in California. The rest of the world is watching, too. California is one of the richest, most diverse, and politically powerful states in the union. So, of course, the other states are watching. But if California passes these laws and the rest of the states follow suit, then the likelihood that the federal government eventually passes even stricter legislation becomes much greater.

Just like less powerful states look to California to set the national tone on a variety of historic debates, from as desegregation, the women’s suffrage movement, and gay rights, many countries around the world often wait to see how the United States responds to global issues before making up their minds as well. Nearly even major country in the world is battling the same form of anti-vaping legislation, including Great Britain, Australia, and Canada. According to the World Health Organization:

  • Over 25 countries now ban electronic cigarettes and vaping devices completely. This means that you can’t even buy a Blu e-cig or a bottle of e-juice.
  • In another 18 countries, vaping products are regulated as tobacco products, which is also one of the proposed bills getting ready to land on the California Governor’s desk.
  • Another 12 countries treat e-cigs as medical products, usually meaning that you need a prescription to buy them.
  • 17 countries already have national legislation regarding where you can publically vape.
  • 13 countries have national laws already in place regarding the advertising, marketing, and promotion of e-cigs and vaping products.
  • 9 countries currently require health warnings on the labels, much like traditional tobacco products.

It’s important to remember that there are 196 countries in the entire world. So these numbers may seem rather large, but this is only a tiny fraction. If California passes these bills and the U.S. Congress strikes with even harsher government regulations and restrictions, then anti-vaping legislation will likely spread like wide fire around the globe.

SAFTA shows you how to fight for the right to vape!

America’s Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association (SAFTA) is warning all California vapor businesses that your business is in jeopardy. SAFTA urges all California vapers, retailers, distributors, and wholesalers to either contact Gov. Brown, your state Senators, or a local newspaper to fight for the right to vape! For those who want to support our California vaping community, even though you many not reside in this state, nothing is stopping you from writing a letter, too. Before you know it, this very same battle may be happening in your state…if we don’t stop it in California first.
